Event Introduced Students To High-Wage Careers After High School

Bowling Green, KY - Thirty local Bowling Green and Warren County high school students participated in two sessions of a live streamed, virtual job shadow with M&L Electrical on Friday, April 23, 2021.  The virtual job shadow sessions were made possible through a partnership with Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky and M&L Electrical.  This is one of many initiatives Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky has offered during the 2020-2021 academic year to introduce local students to high wage career opportunities after graduation from high school.

“M&L Electrical is a proud supporter of Junior Achievement and we feel that it is important that we take the time to mentor students at all levels so that they are better prepared for future opportunities and inspired to dream big,” said Curtis White, Vice President of M&L Electrical.  “We hope that this event was impactful for everyone that attended and at the end of the day we hope we were able to positively change someone’s life.”

M&L Electrical hosted a morning and afternoon session to accommodate all students who were interested in attending. Students were introduced to the company and learned valuable information about their foundation and culture. Students were taken on a tour of the various departments within and heard from employees in each department about what their daily jobs entail. They were given in-depth information about the apprenticeship program offered and how they can become a part of it. Students watched a short employee skit that gave examples of good versus bad interview skills. At the end, the M&L Electrical employees took the time to answer students' questions.

“Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky grants us the opportunity to show students in our community that there are countless career opportunities for everyone,” said M&L Electrical Events Coordinator Heather Skaggs.  “The virtual job shadow allowed us to give an example of what a career in the trades can look like in a fun and informative way. We hope we inspired students who participated, and we are grateful to continue our partnership with Junior Achievement.”

This is the third year Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky has partnered with M&L Electrical, Inc. to provide a job shadow program, and has historically provided in-person job shadow opportunities.  Several Junior Achievement students have been introduced to, and later employed by, M&L Electrical through the job shadow program.

“We are grateful for our partnership with M&L Electrical,” said Junior Achievement Interim President and Director of Education Abby Phillips.  “The job shadow program allows local students to see many career opportunities available to them, whether they take a route of attending college or going straight to the work force and furthering their education while on the job.”
